Jelly Baby? by Niki-UK Jelly Baby? by Niki-UK
For me this has been a labour of love, despite the fact that it's just a sketchy pencil drawing. Primarily done as something to amuse myself and my husband (and also to keep my drawing muscles well flexed), I wanted to attempt a representation of Doctors Eight and Ten... we're talking Doctor Who again, in case you hadn't guessed. ^^;

On the left is David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and on the right we have Paul McGann as the Eighth. Chris and I are huge Eight fans~
Tonight I was determined to draw these two crossing paths for some reason, and this is what came out. I didn't want Ten to be flashing a cheeky smile at his earlier regeneration; I decided to give him a more enigmatic expression. I think Ten's fun, silly side is mostly a front for his human companions. Such a facade would be superfluous if he was effectively facing himself, at least that's what I figure. Since Eight was the regeneration that lived during the Time Wars (dark, dark times), seeing him would probably hit Ten with mixed emotions. Yet, we see Eight here whimsically offering Ten a jelly baby from a little paper bag. So, in a nutshell... all's right with the world! :aww:

Note for the slash fans... yes, of course my brain goes there. ^^; :P

Oh, and that's the classic style TARDIS key in Eight's left hand, by the way... not the dumb Yale key they have these days! Tch!
The faint symbol in the background is the Seal of Rassilon, associated with Gallifrey (the Doctor's home planet) and the Time Lords.

I love the line work. It's wonderfully detailed and subtle. And yes, it's great to see these twi great Doctors meeting. And I love the Tardis key. I totally agree, the Yale key is lame, that shield shaped key was always my favorite.

Wikipedia can; [link]
And here's my shorter version: Basically it's a traditional British sweet along the lines of gummy bears but far superior; consuming them can be an almost religious experience due to the exquisite texture and flavour (IMHO... I was raised on them and I have yet to meet anyone who's tried them and not adored them). First seen in Doctor Who during the Tom Baker era, jelly babies were favoured by the Fourth Doctor and also whipped out by the Seventh and Eighth Doctors in the TV movie.
Bassett's are the makers of the original and arguably the best jelly babies.

Very nice, Eight and Ten are probably my favorite Doctors. (Eight would be my favorite hands down if I had watched more than the movie)

I like the way Ten isn't all smiley-manic around Eight.....

I've been listening to the Big Finish 8th Doctor series the past week or so. He was a great Doctor. It's too bad he didn't get to do more televised stuff.

'Jellybaby, Doctor?'
'Don't mind if I do, Doctor.'

I feel it such a pity that the Eighth Doctor has all but been passed over by the BBC. I thought Paul McGann's portrayal showed so much promise despite my misgivings about the film. And besides '8' has always been my favourite number!

P.S. How on earth do you manage to achieve that amazingly realistic look with the hair?

You took the words right out of my mouth! Eight deserves so much more love... I don't know if you've heard any of the Big Finish Eighth Doctor audio adventures but they're awesome. Everything we love about Paul McGann's Doctor is there in abundance but without any of the elements that let the movie down. The only unfortunate thing is that we can't see the action taking place, but it's all so well written and acted that in many ways it's better left to your imagination to paint the picture anyway. :aww:
Given time, I'd dearly love to illustrate scenes from the audios and create a turnaround sheet for the Eighth Doctor as an animated character. :D

PS. Just down to practice, really... and fangirling*ahem* I mean, intensive study. :giggle:

If you get the chance, please do take a look at my own version of the Doctor. I decided to base his design a little on Paul McGann. Good luck on your animation projects, and if you ever need assistance, I'd be glad to help.
